MECLİS-İ MEBUSAN (PARLIAMENT) REFLECTIONS IN TÜRKİYE

The Parliament-i Mebûsan (Modern Turkish: Representative Assembly) is the subordinate body of the bicameral legislative body in the Ottoman Empire, which was established according to the constitution (Kânûn-ı Esâsî) dated 23 December 1876 and served during the First Constitutional Monarchy and the Second Constitutional Monarchy periods. It consisted of elected parliamentarians and, together with the Assembly of Elites (Meclis-i Ayan), composed of (fewer) members of the upper chamber appointed by the sultan, constituted the general parliament (Meclis-i Umûmî).
